Bloomberg.com: NYSE Tumbles After Writedown Causes Quarterly Loss

The operator of the New York Stock Exchange and four European bourses lost $1.34 billion, or $5.06 a share, in the fourth quarter. Excluding the $1.59 billion writedown resulting from the 2007 purchase of Euronext NV, the 52-cent profit trailed the average analyst estimate by 6.1 percent.
