The NYSE Euronext system, known as Universal Trading Platform, will from this week be used to carry out equities trading on Euronext’s constituent markets in Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and Lisbon. Equities, derivatives and bonds used to be traded on systems operated by the individual stock, derivative and bond exchanges that ran them. But a recent wave of mergers has brought various types of exchange under one roof.
NYSE Euronext, a product of such mergers, offers trading in US and European equities, US and European derivatives and some bonds.
Such exchange groups are now working on the next stage of becoming truly “multi-asset” operators by developing single platforms on which multiple types of assets can be traded across timezones at the same time. Market participants prefer to trade such assets interchangeably in complex trading and hedging strategies.
